Michigan State University, Administrative Information Services Department: East Lansing, MI

Major Responsibilities:

  • Designing and conducting computer training classes and information sessions for faculty, staff, students, and the community, in a wide range of software products, including operating systems, word processing, spreadsheets, database, and web development.
  • Preparing and conducting informational presentations and seminars.
  • Preparing written manuals, materials, and reports to document course content, processes, and procedures.
  • Providing telephone and on-site support for members of the AIS client community.
  • Evaluating, reviewing and recommending software for specific client office applications.
  • Consulting with client offices to develop specialized applications.

Training Philosophy:

It is important as an instructor to be a guide on the side, not a sage on the stage. Since technology is changing so rapidly, she takes pride in creating a safe, comfortable learning environment where participants have an opportunity to ask questions, practice new skills, and share their own experience. She encourages substantial interaction between participants and herself so she may check for understanding and respond to questions. Grace believes that information presented must have practical application to the students and in their work place. She sees her role as helping students develop the skills that will make their jobs easier.
